MAKE: Family Game & More

Years ago, I procured this antique seed drawer on a shopping excursion to Savannah with my dear bestie M.  She’s a native to the town and a professional shopper, to boot, and has introduced me to some of the finest boutiques in the land!

Now, I had NO clue what I would do with it but thought it just had so much character I had to have it.  For years, it sat in my laundry room as a catch all and once or twice served as a wooden planter for various small, seasonal house plants.  That all changed when I got a wild hair to make this a feature in my family room.

I was ever so close to buying one of those table topic games last fall.  You know the ones… the small cards with social questions for you to ask at dinner parties and such.  To be honest, none of the ones I saw at gift stores around my parts were all that clever, so I thought I could easily replicate my own.  And, when I realized that a standard size card stock notecard (from Hobby Lobby) fit PERFECTLY in my seed drawer, I knew exactly how I would pull this together.

Now, this seed drawer is about 10-12 inches in length so it would certainly take a small ton of questions to create a “game” in this box.  Enter idea #2 and idea #3.  Let’s use this to make it multi-purpose.  I added favorite Bible verses to a different color card stock and a third color for trivia questions and random fun facts.  I added a header to each card so that the topic could easily be identified.

To make, I simply created a template in PowerPoint (no fancy software here) and then did a little googling {{{seriously, what did we do before google?}}} to come up with the content.  I printed these on the card stock using my home printer.  Then, after printing the cards, I shuffled the topic categories and added them to the seed drawer.

The drawer made the perfect accessory for a side table in my family room.  With the large lamp anchoring the table, this seed drawer was the right sized treasure to compliment the rustic wooden coasters and lamp.

I must confess, it’s such fun to read the cards when we are entertaining. The questions are entertaining, the Bible Verses are inspiring and the facts are interesting.  It always makes for lively conversation and lots of giggles!
