DO: Celebrate Disney

Let this day not pass us by without recognizing the joy, magic and infinite wisdom that is all things Disney. Today is …. {{{drum roll please}}} Mickey Mouse’s birthday! Happy Birthday to the most favored rodent on the planet!

This year his birthday was celebrated with style at Lil B’s school. And, it’s equally celebrated at our household. I’ll let you in on our little secret … {{{sssshhhhh….. don’t tell}}}} we are all booked for our first Disney trip with Little B in January! ***Squeal with delight***

As an added treat for Lil B and his classmates, I made these presh Mickey inspired cookies for his class.

Disney Mickey Mouse Oreo Cookies

In true working mom fashion, I whipped these up Monday morning just before school’s start.  They are really (honest) easy and you must put these in your “to do” file if the Mickey need ever arises.

To make your own, you need …..

  • 1 pkg Oreos – I used double stuff 🙂
  • 1 bag of mini Oreos
  • 1 bag of Wilton candy melts (my store was out of red so I used white + red food coloring)
  • mini M&M (yellow color)

And, all you do is ….

  1. Melt 1/2 candy melts (or red melts) in microwave.  My “best method” is to microwave in 20 second increments and stir in between, else I always seem to scorch it.
  2. Dip the full size cookies 1/2 way in the melts.  Lay flat to dry.
  3. Add 2 mini M&M dots to the cookies for Mickey’s buttons.
  4. Once dry (run in freezer if you are antsy), it’s time to add the ears.  My best method was to pull the mini Oreo cookies apart into two pieces (like you might have tried as a kid … or yesterday … not judging!).
  5. Melt remaining melts (white melts with no color) using the method above.  Do this in a plastic zipper bag if at all possible.
  6. Snip the corner off of the bag.
  7. Dot a dollop of white candy coat melt on the backside of the half mini Oreo.  Apply 2 to each “big” Oreo.
  8. Let dry completely.

DIY Tutorial Disney Mickey Mouse Cookies

I packed these cookies up in a cute little red tub that I made for Lil B.  Stay tuned for future uses of this cutie!

And … since the school mandated (ok … encouraged) that the kiddos wear their Mickey finest, I whipped up these pants for the occasion.  Yep, you haven’t been drinking and read that right, I SEWED these pants!  I used a series of online tutorials (thank you bloggy friends) and sort of “winged it” to create these.  I rationalized this to Dear Hubs that he needed them for the trip when I had looks of insanity from the peanut gallery!  While they may not be professional status, they DID survive a day at school and Lil B seems to approve!

Here’s to the Mouse with the Mostess…. three cheers for Mickey!  We can’t wait to see you in January!
